Why this course

The course is almost 3 hours of video, 26 video lessons in 7 sections, plus 4 assignments. In that time you build one project on a retailer's data. It goes from the raw files in Unity Catalog to an AI/BI dashboard and a Genie Agent that answers questions about it. The ideas come as hand-drawn sketches, and every hands-on step is a screen recording.

I have worked with data for 17 years, and I led one of the biggest data and AI projects at Mercedes-Benz. In this course, I share the Databricks skills that companies ask for, in the order a data analyst needs them.

What you’ll learn in this course

  • You'll understand what Databricks is, how it works and why companies run their data on it
  • You'll build an AI/BI dashboard, by hand with SQL and again with Genie Code
  • You'll write SQL in Databricks with confidence, from your first query to views and dashboards
  • You'll work with Genie Agents: ask questions in plain English and check the answers
  • You'll load your data into Databricks and organize it in Unity Catalog
  • You'll practice with 4 assignments, the way a data analyst works on a real project

Who is this course for

  • Data analysts whose company moved its data to Databricks, who want to analyze it there instead of exporting it first
  • BI developers who build dashboards and want to do it on Databricks, with SQL and with AI
  • Analysts who know SQL and want to use it on a modern data platform, with real hands-on time
  • Anyone preparing for a data analyst role or a Databricks interview who needs hands-on time on the platform, not only slides

What you need

  • Basic SQL: SELECT, WHERE, GROUP BY and JOIN. Nothing advanced, and you write no Python and no Spark code.
  • No Databricks experience. We create the account together, and it is free, with no credit card and no end date.
  • A web browser. Databricks runs in the cloud, on Windows and on a Mac, and you install nothing.
